Commentary
God and Jesus are both known as "the first" and "the last:"
God is known as: "the first, and the last" in Isaiah 41:4, Isaiah 44:6, and Isaiah 48:12.
Jesus is also known as "the first, and the last" in Revelation 1:11; Revelation 1:17; Revelation 2:8 and Revelation 22:13.
God was King of Israel until Israel desired another king.
1 Samuel 8:5-7 KJV
[5] And the elders of Israel said unto Samuel, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. [6] But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord. [7] And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
Jesus will be the King, the one sitting on the throne of David for evermore.
Luke 1:30-38 KJV
[30] And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. [31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. [32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: [33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
