God is God

Rich young ruler, lacked one commandment

Points:

Rich Young Ruler came to Jesus to ask what he had to do to inherit eternal life.
-- what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life --- Matthew 19:16
-- Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life --- Mark 10:17
-- Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life --- Luke 10:25
-- Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life --- Luke 18:18

1. Accept Jesus as God, for only God is Good, and Jesus is the Good Master --- Matthew 19:16-17; Mark 10:17-18; Luke 18:18-19

2. Keep the commandments to inherit eternal life --- Matthew 19:17; Mark 10:19-20; Luke 10:25-28; Luke 18:20-21

3. Lack not one of the Ten Commandments. The Rich Young Ruler lacked one commandment, the Tenth Commandment to not covet --- Matthew 19:20-21; Mark 10:21; Luke 10:28; Luke 18:22

The Rich Young Ruler broke, failed to keep, the Tenth Commandment to not covet, and gave up his eternal life.

The Rich Young Ruler wanted his great riches here and now rather than eternal life later --- Matthew 19:22; Mark 10:22; Luke 10:37; Luke 18:22-30

Commentary

Jesus said to not replace a commandment of God for a tradition of man.

Seventh Day, Saturday, sabbath is the fourth Commandment of the Ten Commandments. Sunday is a tradition of man.

Matthew 15:3 KJV
[3] But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

Matthew 15:6 KJV
[6] And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

Mark 7:8-9 KJV
[8] For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. [9] And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

The Rich Young Ruler was not willing to give up his possessions now in order to have eternal life later. He was breaking the Tenth Commandment to not Covet.

Believe in Jesus as God, the Good Master.

Keep his commandments, all ten.

Lack not one of the Ten Commandments.

If you accept Jesus as God, keep his Ten Commandments, and lack not one, you shall inherit eternal life.
