New versions add and change words to make it read that there were other things inside the ark of the covenant in addition to the Ten Commandments.

Commentary

"Wherein" is describing the items that were in the respective rooms.

Items that were in (wherein) the first room, the sanctuary: the candlestick, table, and shewbread.
